A Wine Industry-Transformational Transaction

Industry leaders are often faced with the most difficult choices.  When industries go through different stages of maturity, competitive intensity increases and consumer habits change, category leaders are often face with an entirely different set of challenges vs. what brought them there.  The wine industry is no different.

As part of a small cross functional team, a member of Azur worked with the internal team as well as a variety of global consultants and advisors and assisted in the evaluation and recommendation of strategic choices for an industry leader.  The process included consideration of a variety of very difficult alternatives.  A specific plan was developed and in progress, however, it was interrupted by an aggressive consolidator who ultimately transacted the acquisition.

The transaction changed the course of the industry in a number of ways.  In additional to altering the competitive landscape, the impacts of the historic transaction created new opportunities for growth, advances in wine consumer intelligence, marketing, selling, winemaking and business intelligence.  These changes not only benefitted the new leader, but these resources now benefit wine companies throughout the industry today.
